Chrome Remote Desktop
Closed due to inactivityPublic

Description

Fairly elegant and widely used remote desktop service. It appears to require the installation of a Debian package to run on Linux, explained here:

Info: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/1649523?hl=en
Deb file: https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/chrome-remote-desktop_current_amd64.deb

Forgive my ignorance if this can't (or already does) run on Solus. Cheers.

They don't have it versioned, so might make it a bit of a pain to maintain, but after evaluation, this *should* be able to land in Third Party. Obviously it'll need to be tested locally before landing.

I really need this package. I tried to look for a snap package, but couldn't find any.

Sorry but, Can you do me a favor and get this taken care of already?

Don't change priority. We aren't adding new things to Third Party until the Software Center had been moved to using Snaps.

Looks like it's possible to build this from chromium source, at least the fedora guys do. Could build it and spilt the package with patterns, I'll have a look.

edit: Also need an extra api key >.>

Im new to solus what is the procedure of adding a repo to eopkg package manager and how long does it take? :)

chromium and it's subpackages such as Remote Desktop is quite a difficult package to maintain, new chromium releases consistently break the build procedure, that being said I will try to get this in before Solus 4.

This has sat in accepted for inclusion for over 30 days. Clearly, there is a lack of demand for the inclusion of this software, nobody has stepped up to provide a completed patch, maintain it, and properly integrate it. Closing as a result. Feel free to reopen but only when someone offers a patch via our proper patch submission methods and volunteers to be maintainer.

Is it possible to create/edit all necessary files to make Chrome think Remote is installed? I can't get around the "Accept and Install" which makes me download a .deb file.

Seems like they are switching to a web-based approach anyway:
https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/06/06/google-chrome-remote-desktop-web-app-exits-beta-and-replaces-aging-chrome-app/

(Unless I'm misunderstanding something. I am not a user after all)

The new way it works is actually the problem. https://remotedesktop.google.com/access/
Requires you to install software, it downloads a .deb or .rpm when on Linux, exe/msi on Windows.

Not super familiar with Solus yet so I'm not sure where to place all the files that come in the .deb.

Damn I really needed this. I need RDP that I can use through a browser to access my machine at home. Hoping someone can make this happen asap.
