Sourcecode: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/archive/5.9-GE-5-ST.tar.gz
Why: This is a custom version of Proton for use from within Steam and Lutris and not a system-wide Wine replacement. It brings a ton of patches and improvements and massively improves games compatibility, even very popular ones that haven't been working on Proton for months. It is very easy to use, you only need to select it from dropdown on Steam and it usually automatically get's selected as it is the newest version.
I think this would be a quality improvement for many gamers, because it would be automatically updated.

This is a custom version of Proton for use from within Steam and Lutris and not a system-wide Wine replacement.

Surely most people that are using Windows games via Lutris are already specifying the proton version which gets downloaded and used via Lutris scripts? Not sure why this is needed system wide.

This is proton i made to be used from withing Steam and tutorials and guides mention only that. I just wanted to add that it also can be used from within Lutris, but that's just a bonus.
And I just said this is not system wide to clarify this is not replacement for Wine, and that it is gaming-focused and Steam-only

I would like to see this in solus repos as well. Arch aur spoiled me and it saved a lot of time setting it up. Also ,for new users having the ge version of proton available in the repos would make solus that much better for gaming.

JoshStrobl moved this task from Backlog to Accepted For Inclusion on the Package Requests board.

Needs to be packaged in a manner that leverages system libs when possible and doesn't conflict with other system packages.

The build system needs to be massively modified, but it's plausible to patch it and use system libs. I'm willing to co-maintain this.

This has sat in accepted for inclusion for over 30 days. Clearly, there is a lack of demand for the inclusion of this software, nobody has stepped up to provide a completed patch, maintain it, and properly integrate it. Closing as a result. Feel free to reopen but only when someone offers a patch via our proper patch submission methods and volunteers to be maintainer.
