Fortunately most of it we've already packaged or I've packaged for i3, so it looks like it'd only be LGI and some test-related stuff that'd need packaging.

Most of the dependencies are already in the repos for other tiling window managers (xcb stuff), but it would require lua-lgi which isn't. All the support plugins, i.e Vicious, Lain, Blingbling, etc., users usually pull from Git anyway as they're Lua and don't need to be compiled. I don't know of any distro that packages all the plugins too.
But I will leave it to your expertise whether it's worth adding to the mix. I've used it for years, so I'm partial to it, but I may be alone in that. ;-)

I don't think anyone is arguing the value of awesome, we just want someone to be an official maintainer of it and ensure it properly integrates and has OOTB sane defaults.

i believe awesome would be a great addition to the solus repos many advanced users would enjoy it although i would prefer jwm for being easier to configure awesome is a great wm lightweight and generally good looking if you know how to pretty it up which i dont XD i would also suggest icewm
these 3 wm are really good looking and really easy to use although some not easy to customize XD

So I got this built (like 6 months ago) but I need some recommendations for the default look & feel. Note that Awesome ships it's own panel, notification daemon, etc. so I want to avoid external tools unless there's a very good reason to use them.

Well first, let me say thank you @feskyde. I've been able to build Awesome, but frankly have never been in a position were I could maintain it.
As for "look & feel", honestly I suggest doing no more than maybe a different, Solus-default wallpaper, and perhaps theme colors. People who install it are going to end up tweaking it to their liking anyway, so I don't see any reason to go beyond just making the default a little Solus branded.
As to what colors to use, well I believe Budgie and Gnome are using Adapta now (I might be wrong, using Plasma myself), so perhaps match Adapta's green.

This package has been around for far too long in accepted for inclusion with the indication that it needs a maintainer, with no accepted patches being provided. As such, now rejecting for inclusion and marking WONTFIX, as per lack of interest.,
